My dearest SEC brothers and sisters,
Before I even start on this, let me begin by saying I am thrilled with the move to the Southeastern Conference. The Big 12 was home for a long time, and a logical fit for our university our team and our fans. But like most relationships, eventually the landscapes changes and you have to do what’s best for you. I can’t think of a single Mizzou fan (at least that I know) that isn’t thrilled with the opportunity to compete with the best..week in and week out. New turf, new unis, better recruiting…all of it….I know as a group, we are absolutely thrilled, joyful and thankful.
So with that said, let me be frank with each and every one of you…and I only speak for myself and with the utmost respect and friendly intentions:
I’m not f**king scared of your team.
This is not another one of those rants that can simply be tossed aside with a, “What do you expect…you have to earn respect on the field” blah blah blah comment. I know this…I understand this. But what I DO NOT understand is that for YEARS…the people who have followed me in my lifelong journey of fandom have not been ones to take disrespect, badmouthing and general indifference lying down. I certainly expect good tidings and general warmth between the fan bases…and of course at this point we have absolutely no reason to dislike ANY of you. (Except for you Arkansas fans…you’re a f**king joke and I laugh at your very pathetic, banjo picking existence). No, this certainly isn’t about how YOU feel about us…it’s about how WE feel about YOU.
I’m not scared of you because as a fan, I’ve taken a lifetime full of shots to the gut. What’s Alabama gonna do? Beat us 76-0? Well nice try, because we once lost to Texas A&M 77-0. What’s Georgia going to do? Beat us 61-0? Well that aint jack sh*t because we lost to K-State 66-0 not all that long ago. Think we’re gonna overlook Vandy? Well guess what Jethro…we f**king lost to Baylor…TWICE in the past few seasons. Going to keep beating us so we only win 4 games a year? Well look here, from 1984-1997 (A good chunk of my best tailgating/fan years) we won 3.5 and most of those were cupcake pansies…like kansas. Are you going to screw us out of a bowl? Gonna NOT put us on TV every week? Going to take Kentucky over us to a Bowl game?
Think you’re going to bring down some new and unparalled level of pain on us?
Really?!?!?
Fine. Do it. I dare you.
What are you going to do? Beat us for 24 straight years…invade our stadium, and pound into our skulls how great you are day after day after day? Nope, been there and seen that. Are you going to throw urine bombs at our fans as they leave your stadium? Are you going to line up Jamal Charles against us and run for 900 billion yards? Are you going to walk into our field as a #1 team, and then after 59:59….run an illegal play on 5 downs…get stopped BEFORE crossing the goal line…and then walk out with a win and an eventual National Title? Want to bring in your team who won 60 of 62 games…and then when the clock strikes :00…kick a ball OVER the recievers head..at the goal line..only for another receiver to pick it up as it hits the ground for a winning TD? Think that would hurt?
I say this again…NOTHING you can do to us will hurt as bad as the things we’ve gone through just in the past several years.
Losing to Georiga wouldn’t feel any worse than losing to Okie State in 2008.
Losing to Bama wouldn’t feel any worse than getting blasted by Texas in 2009.
Losing to Vandy woulnd’t seem any more painful than Baylor WITH NICK F’ING FLORENCE (not RG3)
So go ahead…continue to talk down on me…spell it out to me that I “just don’t understand”. Continue to overlook my team, their accomplishments and everything we have done to pull ourselves up from that dreadful nightmare called the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. Use your below average trash talking skills to bring up stats from a games played 15 years ago (Sounds familiar). Laugh at us. Mock us. Taunt us. Deal with us however you like.
But just as you preach to us…when it comes to fan bases that can take punishment and absolutely will not die…fans who have paid for every ounce of success over the past decade or so with gallons upon gallons of tears….
YOU my friends…have no idea who you’re dealing with.
